Photographing weddings at King Edward Hotel is a dream for several reasons. First, the beautiful event space exudes classical elegance and gives the photographer plenty of backdrops for beautiful images. Second, the wedding venue has several jaw-dropping banquet halls and gorgeous artwork adorning the beautiful walls of the century old hotel.
The front of the building is also a good spot to capture the passing streetcars. I always try to catch a few frames using a low shutter speed so that the streetcar is in motion while the couple is perfectly still. That technique is fairly difficult to master it takes a lot of practice to be able to hold for a quarter of a second.
This particular photograph was captured exactly in front of the main entrance. I noticed the streetcar approaching at a fairly high speed. Recently, King Street has been converted into a one-way street and sometimes there are no cars on the road. During such a gap, I extracted the bride and groom to go on the street, position them in a romantic pose and instructed them to host still until the streetcar passes. This image features the groom positioned behind the beautiful bride and holding her hands. They are looking at each other and sharing the smile. The love in their eyes is apparent, something I noticed during their engagement photo shoot as well.
The streetcar makes a perfect backdrop in this photograph. Its colours complement perfectly the bride and groom's attire. The white matches the beautiful wedding gown while the red colour is identical to that of the groom's bowtie. Pure coincidence, but it makes for a splendid photo.
