Groom and Father at Chateau Le Parc Wedding

As a beginning of the wedding day, things ran smoothly and that the pace is fairly slow but as we arrived at Chateau Le Parc for the wedding ceremony everything accelerated.

The Period Before the Wedding Ceremony

We took plenty of detail photos of the courtyard at Chateau Le Parc and once the guests started to arrive, it became really hectic. Usually or lead wedding photographer stays with the couple while the second photographer takes pictures of the wedding venue, the guests, capturing any candid moments that occur.

I have to confess that at the beginning of my wedding photography career I would only focus on the guests then I realized that I was missing a very important part of the story: the bride and groom. Now, I know better and I asked my couples what they would prefer. Should we take more images of the guests, of the bride and groom or split and cover both. I find that most couples prefer a balanced approach.

In this particular photo, I noticed the father of the groom approaching his son before the wedding ceremony and I knew there would be an opportunity for a great photograph. Therefore, I position myself properly and framed the shot so when the moment occurred I just took the picture. In that split second when the groom smiled and turned towards his father I was able to capture both men's reaction.

The image gives the viewer a sense of movement as the father's hand is half an inch away from the groom's shoulder.

The shallow depth of field provides a perfect isolation of the subjects from the beautiful floral background. Also, the men's navy suits stand out against the red flower wall.

Most important at all, I love the father's expression of happiness at his son getting married.
