One of the most beautiful moments of this wedding day was the arrival of the bride at King Edward Hotel. Over the years, I had the pleasure and the privilege to photograph a few hundred weddings and every time a bride sees her parents, I capture images featuring tears, smiles, laughter and everything in between.
One of the tricks that makes the story more complete is photographing not only the action but also the reaction. Here the action is the arrival of the bride. The best wedding photographers either layer the picture to capture both the action or the reaction or are positioned in such manner that they can capture both in the same frame. Let me explain what I mean. The artist could place one of the subjects in the foreground and the other in the background. The focus is usually on the person facing the camera. The other alternative is capturing both subjects in the same plane the focus. A less desirable option, but often necessary when things unfold rapidly is to create a wedding album spread and include both the action and the reaction photographs on that spread. It is exactly what I did here. Because the wedding party was blocking my view (yes I told them to stay away from the camera but they totally forgot in the heat of the moment) I was forced to take to photographs. The first one features the bride and her beautiful reaction. The second one shows her father who is speechless when he sees his beautiful daughter.
