This wedding reception at King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto was one of the most beautiful parties I have ever documented in my career. Of course, as a professional wedding photographer in Toronto I saw hundreds of venues in my travels but Crystal Ballroom remains one of my favourites.
First, the elegance of the space is just breathtaking. The beautiful chandeliers adorning the ballroom are stunning. It makes perfect sense that almost 100 years ago this was the most famous spot in the city where the rich and famous would mingle and where the most beautiful weddings took place.
Unfortunately, as you probably know, the hall was closed for a long period of time and when the Omni Group acquiredKing Eddie, they promised they would bring back the beauty and opulence of the original Crystal Ballroom.
In this particular image there are a few striking elements that increase its value. First the purple up lighting complements perfectly the fancy chandeliers that adorn the event space. Second, to capture this picture I used an 8mm fisheye lens that creates a bit of a distortion and makes the place look even more exotic. Finally, the guests dancing the night away gives the viewer the impression he's there among the friends and family of the bride and groom.
