Splendid Portrait of the Bride in Front of King Edward Hotel

As a Toronto wedding photographer, I am aware of the importance of the bridal portraits. Most brides have a vision for their wedding day and it is our duty as artist to understand and fulfill the couples' dreams. When the bride and groom are expecting something we are not able to deliver, it is only fair to manage their expectations and tell them we cannot oblige. On this big day at King Edward Hotel, I had the pleasure to work with one of the most beautiful and the warm couples ever. Because we did two engagement photo shoots and they were happy with the results, the bride and groom trusted me fully. As such, they were not surprised when I asked the beautiful bride to start walking along the streetcar. Of course, I asked the bridal party to make sure there is no car coming and generally drivers are very kind when it comes to someone's wedding day.

Composition

Because photography is a static art, we, professional photographers need to create engaging images that convey dynamism through angles shapes and colours. In this case, the juxtaposition of the bride and the read streetcar, makes her stand out. I also used leading lines to make the image more dynamic and to direct the viewer's attention towards the bride.

The Decisive Moment

in order to create the maximum separation between the foreground (the bride) and the streetcar behind her, I took the picture when the streetcar doors were right behind the subject. That in effect frames my subject and increases the contrast between her and the background in what is called in photography figure to ground relationship.
