I have to admit that I loved photographing this splendid wedding at King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto. About a year before the big day, I had the opportunity to meet with the couple and chat over a cup of coffee. Many wedding photographers except any kind of clients even when they are not a good fit. In the long run, that is a mistake. I know it is hard to forgo money, especially at the beginning of the career, but trust me being very selective will help you grow your business much faster.
As I was saying, I met the bride and groom in one of the trendiest coffee shops in the city and had an opportunity to discuss the details of their special day, from the bride preparation to the wedding ceremony and the reception.
It was easy for me to recognize that the couple were in love. That is always a huge advantage a wedding photographer because he or she doesn't need to elicit emotions. When the couple is genuinely in love, the artist can adopt documentary photography style and catch all the tiny moments that pepper the big day.
During our consultation, the bride and groom told me that they would like to have an engagement photo shoot and that they were not comfortable in front of the camera. The truth be told, nobody asked natural in front of the camera. It is one of the reasons I switch from Canon to Fuji. The mirrorless system is smaller, hence less intimidating, not to mention lighter than the DSLRs. But I digress!
I was lucky enough to photograph the couple twice as we had to the engagement photo shoots before their wedding day.
