King Edward Hotel Wedding
Mother and Son Dance in the Crystal Ballroom
It is for her to say that every wedding is different but they all have something in common: the parents' dances are filled with beautiful moments of joy. This splendid wedding in the Crystal Balroom at the beautiful King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto was no exception.
In this candid image captured during the mother and son dance, we can see the mother of the groom looking at her beautiful son and crying. As a parent, huge joyful moment when the child is getting married. It is also the birth of a new family and the location for celebration and love.
Composition
To capture several stories I used a technique that we, wedding photographers called layering. An image is more compelling if there are several stories in it. In the foreground we have the groom and his mother dancing. In the background we see the best man filming this beautiful dance. Next to him, the bride is looking at her husband and his mother in law. While the composition is not symmetrical it is very balanced. The main subject in this photograph, the mother and her son are placed on the right hand side of the frame in the background slightly towards the left but having a similar visual weight, we see the best men in the bride. They're both looking at the couple dancing, which creates virtual leading lines emphasizing the importance of the subject in the image.
In order to capture this shot I used a 23 mm lens mounted on a Fuji XT2 and to preserve the candidness of the moment I chose a black and white post processing.
