Groom Kisses Bride Under Veil

The bride and groom got married in the Crystal Ballroom at King Edward hotel in downtown Toronto. After the ceremony, is it usually the case, the guests, friends and family surrounded the beautiful couple and wished them all the best and a long and happy life together. I would say that took about half an hour and we started taking family photos afterwards.

Once we finished taking family photographs, we invited a couple for a one hour photo shoot around the beautiful hotel. Let me take a step back and tell you my modus operandi if you want. During the last consultation with the couple, when the timeline of the day is finished, I asked the bride and groom to tell me about their vision of the big day. One of the most important elements I need to know is if there are any must-have photographs. Maybe the bride has received a medallion or a family heirloom that has to be photographed. Also, it is very possible that the couples living in the GTA have families travelling from abroad and they want specific pictures with the guests and family.

Even though some wedding photographers dislike capturing those images, I absolutely love doing that. How often does the family reunite for such joyous occasions? After we discuss the plan for the special day, I usually visit the photo shoot locations and the banquet hall prior to the wedding day. First, I want to analyse the quality and direction of light in various spots. I know that's on the big day there is very little time for improvisation and the professional photographer has to perform just like an athlete during the Olympics or the musician on the stage.
Having done my homework, after the ceremony I to the couple to a beautiful spot next to St. James Cathedral.

The light was gorgeous, it was summer and it was fairly quiet, especially for that part of the city. The bride and groom took a moment for themselves and they'd simply suggested that they cover their faces with the veil. This is a traditional photograph which I absolutely love because of the romantic nature of it.

Somehow, the veil becomes a barrier which isolates the couple from the rest of the world and allows them to manifest their true feelings of love for each other. I have to admit that one of my most beautiful photographs were taken when the bride's veil covered the newlyweds faces. Because the veil forces the couple to come closer together but they don't actually kiss, that creates tension so beautiful to be captured by the camera.
