Bride and Groom's Environmental Portrait at King Edward Hotel Wedding
This photograph captured before the wedding reception at King Edward Hotel is an homage to the classics. More specifically, it is inspired from one of the most influential photographs of all times: The V-J Day in Time Square, an image captured by Alfred Eisenstaedt in Times Square on August 14, 1945. It is one of the most recognizable and reproduced images in the world. The professional photographer to this image while on assignment for Life magazine.
Inspiration in Wedding Photography
It is a habit of mind to meet the couples before the wedding day so we can learn about each other and see if we are a good fit. One of the questions many brides and grooms ask is where do I find inspiration. The truth is that it is becoming harder and harder to create something you because it's been over 100 years of photography and everything has been created. Often I look at Fearless photographers awards and I draw inspiration from them. Most of the time though I turn to the classics, the pioneers of photography in general, the masters of the light who, with their rudimentary cameras (by our standards) surpassed by our today's smart phones, created masterpieces that stand the test of time.
This image is a testimony of the power of emotion, love, the right moments when the artist pressing the shutter button. Often, on the special day there is no time for improvisation in one has to have a plan in order to achieve consistent beautiful imagery. This image is the result of proper planning and visiting the location before the big day.
Composition
The composition in this image is simple yet powerful. The couple is placed towards the centre of the frame and its importance is emphasized by the multitude of leading lines directing the viewer's attention towards the bride and groom. To achieve such dynamic angles, I used a 16 mm lens mounted on my beloved Fuji XT2.
