This wedding ceremony at King Edward Hotel was a touching one and offered us, documentary wedding photographers plenty of opportunities to capture beautiful moments. Here, we can see the father of the bride giving her away to her groom. This is the key moment of the wedding ceremony as it symbolically reflects the passage from one era to the other. The beautiful bride steps into her married life and this is the moment it all begins.
On the left hand side of the frame we can see the groom extending his right arm to touch the bride's hand. In the middle, perfectly balancing this beautiful image, is the father of the bride smiling and looking at the groom.
Finally, on the right hand side, we see that beautiful bride extending her arm to touch that of her husband to be.
For this image, I chose a symmetrical composition which denotes stability. This simple composition is clean, safe, and reflects a documentary photography style where the artist is capturing the love story in one frame.
Lighting, the quintessential element of photography without which no image exists, is simple here. Before the ceremony, the priest asked the professional photographers not to use flash except for the processional and recessional. According to him, this is a celebration of love in the house of God and not a photo shoot. I totally agree with him and we didn't use any artificial light so we only focused on capturing the moments rather than building complicated lighting scenarios.
