As wedding photographer, I love energetic bridal parties and the groomsmen at this Château Le Parc wedding, were out of this world.
One of the most common questions I am asked by couples and my colleagues is how I created certain images. In this particular case, I took the image before the wedding ceremony on a summer day around noon when the sun was at its meridian. Professional photographers always avoid this time of the day because the light is very harsh. However, for groomsmen photos such lighting conditions can in fact make the guys look even more masculine.
For this photograph, I asked the groomsmen to join me outdoors and used four smoke grenades to create a dance red smoke it gives the image a cinematic feel. I call this shot the explosion and asked the guys to jump in the air when prompted. The groom is standing still while the guys are captured in mid air, which gives them a sense of motion.
I usually not a big fan of using props in wedding photography for simple reason: on the big day, things usually run late and we never have time so any props malfunction can make us waste precious time and derailed the photo shoot. Dogs and balloons are the most notorious when it comes to props that can go wrong and can delay the photo session.
